Literacy Narrative Reflection
A literacy narrative reflects the writing background of an individual. This assignment in particular was my favorite, but also my most challenging. When approaching a major writing project, I often get inside my own head as I overanalyze the entire writing process I am utilizing. This led to some setbacks as I began analyzing myself as a writer and transferring that onto paper. Nonetheless, I feel I was successful in meeting the criteria for this writing assignment, and I am proud of my finished product.
The purpose of this assignment was to analyze our writing background and overall writing process and evaluate how we could develop it through the course of RWS. I feel I accomplished this purpose as I reflected on things about myself that I never considered when it came to reading and writing. This assignment allowed me to remember certain aspects that brought me to the point at which I am with my writing skills. I learned that treating your paper as a draft is beneficial because it enables you to make changes as you go along. Nothing is set in stone is what I learned. I used this same approach when writing my other assignments for this course, and I can definitely utilize it in other courses.
When approaching this assignment, I referred to various readings for guidance. Sherman Alexie and Malcolm X’s articles on literacies and how our individual experiences shape our writing enabled me to analyze my own background in writing in order to shape my literacy narrative.
