Welcome!
Welcome to my E-Portfolio! My name is Malvina Muñoz, and my purpose for this portfolio is to introduce myself as a writer and showcase my development in the course of Rhetoric and Writing Studies 1301. I am currently a sophomore at the University of Texas at El Paso, and I am a pre-nursing student with the plans of eventually becoming a Nurse Anesthetist.
From an early age, I have always had a curiosity for writing. From the moment I could read and form words, poetry and story writing became my favorite pastime and escape from the world around me. In the 4th grade, I was even lucky enough to have had the opportunity to have a collection of my work published into a book. While writing framed my childhood and influenced my growth as an individual, my love for writing declined as I grew older and as the entire process became evermore complex.
Throughout my course in RWS, I have learned to once again enjoy writing and to take advantage of the opportunities that it can lead to. The various readings discussed in the course have opened my eyes to the type of writer I am and to the type of writer I should strive to be. I have realized that I am my harshest critic when it comes to approaching the writing process. Along with the struggle of writer’s block, I have found my biggest problem to be that I tend to follow certain rules too strictly, which actually serves to restrict my overall process. By learning about my faults, I have ultimately learned to overcome them.
Learning to write my own literacy narrative, discourse community ethnography, and research argument has taught me about the various relationships writing has to individuals and even to their working environments. As a hopeful in the field of medicine, it is vital to understand what it takes to read and write in such a career. I can definitely use what I have learned through such assignments in my future career and in the courses that will get me there.
My semester in RWS has served to improve my overall writing process. I have learned to not overanalyze my approach and to utilize certain rules more loosely, which has ultimately allowed me to let my writing flow more effectively. With each assignment I have completed in this course, I feel I have improved structurally and have effectively met the required criteria each time. I invite you to go through a few of my assignments and experience my growth as a writer along with me.
